Irrigation ditches are small depressions created in order to channel water from a source. They have several uses:

To drain water from low areas that constantly get flooded. To channel water from distant water sources. To Irrigate lands dedicated to agricultural production.

For lands destined for agricultural produce, ditches are located in alongside the fields in order to irrigate the crops that are being grown. This method aims to increase the efficiency of the land, as more output is produced per acre.
