What made the Western Roman Empire vulnerable to invasion from the Goths?

It was cut off from key trade routes.

    Explanation:

    Since the death of Marcus Aurelius Roman Empire was in a process of decay. Some stability was achieved during the period of Diocletian and Constantine, but this wasn't enough to preserve the unity of the whole country. In 395 the Empire was divided in two parts. Western Empire was less economically advanced and was under constant attack of Germanic tribes. Rotten system, intrigues on the court and civil wars made the Empire vulnerable. It was just a matter of day when the Empire will collapse. And that happened in 476.
