The presidential election process in the United States is somewhat ineffective. This is in part due to the electoral college system. The electoral college system is what determines the presidency, not the popular vote. This is why critics argue that this is an iefficient way of voting for president, as the person with the most votes may lose the actual election.

In the presidential election system, citizens individually vote for the president. Then, a group of electors designated by the government will officially cast the vote for the entire state. Each state is worth a certain amount of electoral votes, which is roughly based on a states population. In this system, states like New York, Florida, Texas, and California have significant political power. However, smaller states have very little influence on the election due to their small population.
