This ancient city was built in the eastern part of the Yucatan state in Mexico. The Sacred Cenote (Well of Sacrifice) is one of the most fascinating parts of Chichen Itza. Archaeologists excavated this well in the early 1900s and found jade, incense, and gold artifacts. They also found human remains. Researchers who examined these remains found that their wounds resembled those found in ritual murders. What can be concluded about the Maya people based on the passage?
