    Tobacco.

The crop was first produced in commercial quantities in the United States during the 17th century. The wars in the world and American colonies created a positive demand shift in tobacco production. During the American Revolution, trade with most colonies was disrupted thus shift of the demand to other parts of the world increased the demand for tobacco in the United States in form of cigar and chewing tobacco. Unlike tobacco, other American products such as the wheat, corn and rice were majorly hit by difficulties in shipping because the field were being burned.
