The 1954 school desegregation decision in Brown v. Board in Georgia was met with massive resistance to desegregation that crumbled the entire State due to forces within the State. The commitment of the public towards public education was stronger compared to its support for strict segregation. This became important because it took the state government of legislating resistance which resulted in Georgia developing towards being a more free and equitable society.
