The correct answer is - D. many available natural resources.

Once the Europeans started to explore Africa and be more familiar with it, they saw huge potential in it. The reason for that was that the continent was very rich in numerous natural resources all of sorts. Also, the indigenous people of Africa were not using them, and not really knew their value in the other places in the world. The Europeans were not going to face any problems in that department as the Africans would not even be very aware of what are they doing with their natural resources and why do they take them. The military superiority of the Europeans made it possible that they colonize Africa with relative ease, and once they gained control over it, they started to exploit its natural resources, and got lot of wealth from it.
