The main parties between 1828 and 1854 were the Democratic Party

and the Whig Party. Between 1854 and 1860, the Whig Party fell

apart and was replaced by the Republican Party. Before 1828, the main parties were Federalist Party and the Democratic-Republican

Party, from which the Democratic Party came.
