    Louis XIV was also known as Sun king and a former ruler of France in the 16th century. His reign of 72 years and 110 days is regarded as the longest rule of any monarch of a sovereign country in the history of Europe.

    He built Versailles to gain direct control over the nobles. He also encouraged and commanded commanded the most influential nobles to come to live at Versailles and to leave their castles in the country.

    He made sure he had control by making sure the nobles lived at his house and also ate at his table.
