The Truman Doctrine and Containment were two important components of U. S. foreign policy in the post WWII period. The Truman Doctrine applied specifically to Greece and Turkey and pledged U. S. support to countries who were threatened by Soviet influence and aggression. Containment was an important part of this policy because it sought to limit Soviet expansion and oppose it with counterforce at every juncture. This usually took the form of economic and military aid.
