Griffin feels loneliness after looking himself on the mirror. The transformation was shocking since his face and shoulders were like that of a stranger glaring at him from the mirror (a dark negro stared back at him). the loneliness is also felt when griffin steps out and faces rejection from white people who scorn or avoid him.
