In the 5th of July 1811, Venezuela declared its independence from the Spanish Kingdom. Numerous factors contributed to the declaration of independence, but most importantly, the Napoleonic wars. Spain was invaded by Napoleon in October 18, 1807, which led to a conflict where the Spaniards fought against Bonaparte, who had placed his brother on the Spanish throne. The Spanish monarchy had, therefore, collapsed. This led to political uncertainty and brought the opportunity to start a rebellion against the Spanish Kingdom. Other factors were the desire of financial independence and the Enlightenment ideas brought by the French Revolution.
