    From the 7th century CE, trans-Saharan trade linked the Mediterranean economies, where can supply salt, to the sub-Saharan economies, where gold was abundant, flourished.

    In 613 CE, The Sahabah fled from the persecution of the ruling Quraysh tribe of Mecca and sought refuge in the Christian Kingdom of Aksum, present-day Ethiopia and Eritrea, in the Western Africa. It's known as First Hegira.

    Later, Muslim troops took over current Egypt and then Libya.

    In the 8th century CE, Muslim controlled the entire of North Africa and crossed the Strait of Gibraltar to Europe.
