The French traded fur with the Native Americans, so they generally treated them better than the other Europeans who would exploit the Natives and their only intention was to take their land for colonization. The fur trade was a major factor in the peaceful relations between the Natives and French.

    2. The French settled in Quebec (their first permanent settlement in North America), and continued to have a strong relationship with the local Native Americans that included the continuation of the fur trade as well as intermarriage being common.

    3. In the mid 1700s, the English settlers clashed with the Native Americans in the region. During these conflicts, the French supported the Natives, and even fought by their side during the French and Indian war.
