    The Compromise of 1850 comprise bills that sought for a compromise on the issue of slavery in order to avert a crisis between North and South. It was opposed by pro-slavery southern Democrats, led by John C. Calhoun, and anti-slavery northern Whigs. Proponents included Senator Henry Clay
