Tecumseh used religious and ethnic revival led by his brother Tenskwatawa to promote pan-tribal unity among native Americans. He managed to form a coalition of different tribes inhabiting lands in Northeast America. The idea he advocated is that American Indian land is owned in common by all tribes and that it can be sold only after consent of all tribes. He began to influence other tribes to join his alliance lead from his stronghold in Prophetstown and killed or threatened those who signed the treaties and sold land to the United States.
