The Spanish-American War was fought between the United States and Spain in 1898. There were hostilities between both nations since they were powerful states during that period. They had several possessions around the world.

In 1898 Cuban revolts against Spanish rule were ceased by the U. S. army entering the Spanish-American War. This war was ten-weeks long and it was fought in both the Caribbean and the Pacific. In the end, the U. S. was allowed to take temporal control of Cuba and was given ownership of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippine islands. American acquisition of Spain's Pacific possessions weakened Spain and strengthened America.

Nowadays, America is a military and economic world power. This is a result of wars like this one that allowed this nation to take control of different parts of the world and expand its empire. The United States of America always takes decisions to benefit themselves but since International relationships had changed and evolved, wars are not that easy to be started. Economic considerations play a really important role in decisions to be involved in armed conflicts. Several considerations have to be taken before deciding entering war. Nevertheless, having economic power equals still having military power what affects and determines nations' world positions.
