Why were most American cities located along the Atlantic coats during the first 50 years of independence?

1) cities were important economic centers.

2) great Britain would not allow cities to be build t elsewhere.

3) cities did not need goods from the west.

4) the government did not allow cities in the west.

    I'm not sure if any of your answers are correct answers to the question asked.

    Cities were mostly developed on the Atlantic coast as 1. that is where they landed and 2. they would have port access to Europe still.

    As time went on, the British government did limit the growth westward.
