    C. it spurred a time of scientific innovation that resulted in new navigational technology

    Explanation:

The Renaissance was a crucial period in Europe which completely changed the societies, and after that influenced the whole world. During this period, the people gradually started to move away from the church, and they were becoming more and more involved into sciences. As the church was losing its power, it was no longer able to keep the population in the dark, and there was a real explosion of ideas and new inventions. This led to the development of much better navigational technology which spurred the sea explorations, and eventually the discovering of several new continents.
