The Magna Carta was signed for the first time in 1215 by King John of England because he was having a political crisis, so this document affirmed that everyone was equal to the law. The principles of this document are reflected in the US constitution as well as in the Declaration of Independence, meaning that it had an influence in the American Revolution. It promoted the idea that governments should have limited power and certain protections and immunities. Several rights in these documents and in the US Bill of Rights have an origin from the rights protected by Magna Carta. Also, many constitutional principles have their origin in the XVII century interpretation of the Magna Carta, like supreme law, separation of powers, etc.
