The condition of different people in American society shows a huge contradiction in the Declaration of Independence.

For example, one of the most famous phrases from this document states that "all men are created equal" and are in possession of inalienable rights (aka life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness). Despite the words written in the Declaration of Independence, black men and women were still enslaved in American society for almost another century after this document was written. Along with this, Native Americans had their lands taken by the federal government on several different occasions. This shows that America was not truly living up to the Declaration of Independence, especially during the 1800's.
