Why did new trade routes grow following Alexander's conquest

Alexander the Great expanded his Empire quickly, and in many cases destroyed existing infrastructures or looted cities to keep his men fed and hydrated. Thus when his conquests ended new trade routes within his Empire sprung up, along with routes to powers that now bordered him.
