Now that you know about the experiences of farmers and migrants in the 1930s, would you have moved west if you were in their shoes? Write three or four sentences explaining your reasons for moving or not moving.

    This is a personal answer, so there is no right or wrong, but I can tell you some of the factors that might motivate you to say yes. Moving west represented a unique opportunity for a lot of families to own land. The land that was on the East Coast, while fertile, was expensive, and many families were already established in the area. By moving west, families were able to own farms they could not have anywhere else. Moreover, the West was a region that was developing fast, providing many business opportunities for people.
