The president is expected to extend moral authority and provide reassurance that citizens live in a righteous Nation, even when it works in ways inimical to the professed national values of the country. As the chief citizen, the president should represent the people and work for the public interest. The president as the Chief Citizen must strive to embody American ideals, serve the interest of the nation and act in the Nation's best interest. When there is a tragedy, the president works is to tell, inspire, and comfort the people of America.
