As each state ratified the Constitution, it was publicly celebrated such as in these cartoons in the Massachusetts Centinel. Why was it important and publicly celebrated as each state voted to ratify? Why do you think there was such an effort to have as many states as possible ratify the Constitution?

It was important that many states as possible ratified the Constitution because only when nine out of 13 states ratify it, the Constitution and the new government of the United States would be enacted.

Many states resisted the Constitution, so celebration was important when each of them ratified it because it showed the American people supported the new country and government that was proposed in the Constitution.
