    Answer: Although at the early stages of the Roman Republic the aristocracy (patricians) dominated politics, as time passed, they started having the same political power as plebeians (patricians with no gens).

    Even though they were both politically equal, patricians still had more social recognition and more wealth than plebeians, so they ended up buying control and influence over elected leaders.
