Collecting trips lasted for about 3 months. Traveling on foot, the Sisters depended on the charity of strangers for food and shelter. They collected from mining and railroad camps because they had healed so many men. Often the Sisters slept in supply tents with a flour sack or bag of nails for a pillow, or they slept on hard ground in the pouring rain. To travel they walked, flagged down trains, climbed mountains, or begged rides and food. The Sisters took pledges and collected money.
