The hierarchy of Japanese feudalism was based on the three classes; the royal, noble and lower. Each class had a role in society. The Emperor was considered to be the leader of feudal Japan but had no power. The nobles (military) class ruled Japan. This consist of Shogun (general), Daimyo (warlord), Samurai (warrior), and Ronin (did not belong to any master). In the lower - class peasants, along with fishermen, artisan and merchants were included.
