Luther believed Christians could only be saved by faith. This means that he thought someone only needed to have faith in god. This differs from church practices, for example, baptism. In the christian church, baptism is the ticket to heaven, but Luther didn't believe in that, he believed that Christians only needed faith to get to heaven.
