Romanticism proclaims freedom of creation and expression.

    Characteristics of Romanticism:

    • Freedom of creation and expression

    • Nationalism

    • Historicism

    • Medievalism

    • Popular Traditions

    • Individualism, egocentrism

    • Pessimism

    • Escapism

    • Social criticism

The ideas of the Enlightenment were initially disseminated by philosophers and economists, who claimed to be propagators of light and knowledge, so they were called Enlightenment. They valued reason above all else, judged the most important instrument for achieving knowledge. They stimulated questioning, research and experience as a form of knowledge of nature, society, politics, economics and the human being. They were totally against absolutism and its outdated characteristics. Also criticized mercantilism, the privileges of the nobility and clergy, and the Catholic Church and its methods (belief in God was not criticized). It defended freedom in politics, economics, and religious choice. They also wanted the equality of all before the law.
