The result was that North Carolina left the union after the vote on, may 20th 1861 to join the struggle for the southern independence

    Explanation:

North Carolina left the union to join other deep southern states like Alabama, Florida, south Carolina, Texas. to fight/struggle for the independence of the south and this ended up ruining North-Carolina because the fight ended up in a defeat overall

"Everybody about here is for Secession." Many unionists, thinking secession inevitable, stayed home as North Carolinian's approved a convention in mid-May. When the delegates met in Raleigh on May 20, they voted unanimously to secede from the United States and to join the Confederate States of America.
