    The Sand Creek Massacre took place in 1864 during the American Indian Wars fought betwen the United States goverment and certain native indian tribes.

    The force comprised by the 675 men who constituted the Colorado U. S. Volunteer Cavalry, leaded by Chivington destroyed a village of Cheyenne and Arapaho people in a Southeastern region in Colorado. Many natives were slaughtered and most of them were women and children that could barely defend themselves.
