The North had a larger population and a more advance industry while the South was still mainly focused on agriculture, cotton, and slaves. The two things that the South had in advantage were better generals and a home field advantage as many battles were fought in the South. Since the North had a larger army, they believed the greater number of soldiers would best win and continually sent mass amounts of troops whilst the South continued to defend from the South and strategized with well thought out plans.
