Why did the Chinese reject opening trade up with the British

    Answer: China refused to allow British to sell more opium into China ... China refused to trade opium. British insisted on doing so becauae they had nothing else to export to China. So when it's clear that Chinese government wouldn't change its mind, Britain invaded and forced Chinese government to allow opium import.
