    Justinian tried to restore the glory of Rome by reconquering the lands lost by the western part of the Roman Empire. He succeeded in taking Italy, the former Roman province of Africa (western Libya, Tunisian Coastal Algeria and northern Morocco) and southern Spain.

    Justinian also rebuilt the church of Hagia Sophia, which had been destroyed in riots and establishing his code of laws known as Corpus Juris Civilis.

    Justinian tried to rebuild the Roman Empire. His armies conquered many territories, the Iberian Peninsula, north of Africa and Italy. He modernised Roman laws.
