Why did most American Indians tend to side with England

The British seemed a better option for many Indians, in particular, the Shawnee, the Creeks and the very large and powerful Cherokee and Iroquois.

The British promised the Native Americans that they would control the expansion of the settlers to Indian lands, in exchange for the Native Americans giving their support to the government and the British army in the War of Independence. In addition to protecting the land of the Indians, the British also promised them trade.

After the French and Indian wars the British in 1763 drew a line along the Appalachian Mountains making it illegal for settlers to settle west of the mountains. This greatly favored the Indians and angered the settlers. The settlers did not take the law into account and this made the Indians angry with the American settlers. On the other hand, the British took charge of the fur trade of the French. This fur trade was important for Indians who brought desired manufactured products. For all this many Indian tribes transferred their loyalty from the French to the British.

Other Indian tribes, such as the Iroquois, had fought alongside the British against the French allies and French Indians (former enemies of the Iraqis). These tribes continued in their loyalty to the British Crown when the war between the British and the settlers began.
