The event that triggered the French and Indian War between Britain and France in 1754 was the tension between the two nations over the Great Lakes area, especially the Ohio River valley, a region that both claimed.

From the beginning of the 1750s, both nations began to build military forts in the area. In turn, each nation began to send troops to the strong adversaries to dismantle them, reaffirming their sovereignty in the area. Finally, on May 28, 1754, the British confronted the French at Fort Duquesne, who had sent a military contingent on a diplomatic mission. This battle triggered a war that lasted until 1763, in which Great Britain triumphed and expelled the French from North America, conquering Canada.
