The Dutch settled in New Netherland because of trading purposes. Dutch settlers traded with Native Indians for fur pelts to make a profit. Fur pelts were widely exported to Europe to make hats, because of its demand among the high-class society, who were willing to pay the price for it.

Catholics settled in Maryland to seek religious freedom mainly from England. Catholic settlers left their homeland because of religious intolerance and persecution. Catholics settle in the New World to practice their religion without any fear and obstruction from the Church of England.
