Thomas moss was one of three successful grocers who lived in mixed neighbourhood in Tennessee.

There was only one white grocer and his business was shrinking rapidly. With no real prospects in sight, he instigated rumours about the black men and soon an armed mob of white people stormed the three grocers.

Soon, the police stepped in to control the mob and the three black men were eventually jailed. However, things did not stop here as the mob attacked the police stationed and kidnapped the three black men.

They were taken outside the town and the two black men were shot in the head and neck. Before killing Thomas Moss, the mob asked him if there was something he wanted to say, to which he replied 'tell my people to go west, there is no justice for them here'
