The correct answer is letter D

On November 4, 1979, less than nine months after the fall of the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, one of the United States' main allies in the Middle East, members of the Islamic Students Followers of the Imam Line invaded the building to demand that Washington extradited the deposed ruler, who was then admitted to an American hospital. He would die in July of the following year, in Egypt.

The crisis lasted 444 days and ended with the release of 52 Americans, but the United States government broke off diplomatic relations with Iran in 1980, months before that country's presidential election. That same year, in April, the United States carried out a failed military operation to rescue the hostages, "Operation Eagle Claw", which left eight soldiers dead. At the time, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini said the operation was interrupted by an "act of God".
