Answer: Military leaders and extreme Nationalists tend to be very effective during times of crisis

Explanation: Often times when there is a crisis, citizens tend to prefer military leaders or extreme Nationalists as they usually respond to crisis more effectively and appropriately than their non-military counterparts. In the case of Japan, the people turned to the military leaders so as to ensure protection of the country from outside forces and also to prove to everyone else that they are a big nation that can pose as a threat to any other nation, which eventually turned out to be very effective.

The militarists in Japan condemned politicians for agreeing to stop overseas expansion as they didn't want Japan to be treated as second class by other nations. They also wanted to expand to Manchuria for natural resources, all of which played in their favour with the people in their time of crisis.
