    The Great Purge was a campaign to repress political dissent in USSR. Joseph Stalin was its perpetrator. It occurred between 1936-1938. During the great purge, a large number of party officials, kulaks and ethnic minorities were purged. Police surveillance, repression, and executions was very common. The total number of deaths during the great purge is estimated to be more than 800,000.
