European settlers in US and Canada came in various waves to form the modern demographic of the region.

Explanation:

The first waves of the settlers in the US and Canada were the pilgrims who had escape religious persecution in Europe and wanted a better life somewhere new.

After this, many wave of settlers from across the world due to famines, wars and other better opportunities in the new world came and settled these regions.

These included people like the French, Germans, Italians and Irish along with British that settled thus.
