The Cultural Revolution was a sociopolitical campaign put forward by Mao Zedong, leader of the Chinese Communist party in 1966. It encouraged young people to attack bourgeois classes. It was unsuccessful because the Red Guards assaulted anyone believed middle-class. As a result, skilled workers were compelled to leave their jobs, schools and industries closed, the financial system decelerated and a civil war approached.
