    Once the colonies were formed in America, England immediately started making forts along the boundaries of the colonies in order to protect them. Initially, the forts were made along the coastline, as most of the colonies were there, and the main threat was coming through sea. Over time, as the colonies expanded, and the threat was becoming bigger on land as well, forts were built along the mainland borderlines as well, mostly because of the Spanish and the threat they posed, but also because of the French, as well as the Native Americans.
