How did the Renaissance lead to the enlightenment

    I suppose it set the stage for the Enlightenment by giving rise to the Humanist movement in Western Europe and perhaps loosened some of the grip in certain countries of the iron fist of religious ideology, but history tends not to be linear so its hard to say, some places advanced in certain lines of thought, some diverged, some went backwards, and all at different time periods and phases.
