During its ''Golden Age'', the Muslim Caliphates had a boom in numerous sciences, big portion of which were based upon and motivated by the knowledge of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. One of the very useful new inventions was the astrolabe, a device that was providing the sailors with much improved orientation when on sea, thus minimizing the errors, and maximizing the efficiency and precision of the traveling and trade through sea.
