When the US Constitution was created there was a major concern with the liberty of people, especially because Americans wanted to run from the British absolutism. This way they created the rule of law in the US Constitution, that was a way of protecting people's liberties by maintaining the Constitution as the base of the legal system.

The democratic principle of rule of law means that all people and institutions are subjected to and accountable to the law. So everyone and everything is governed by law.

The US Constitution reflects the rule of law in many ways. First, because the US Constitution is the base of all legal system, any law in the US has to respect the US Constitution.

The fact that the US Supreme Court has the power to declare any law that goes against the Constitution unconstitutional represents the major power of the Rule of Law.
