The "containement" ideal which we can characterize by the establishment of political alliances or political intervention on the government with and for countries threatened by another country with increasing power, that might be in search of territorial domination, is relevant today for America, when we think of the risk of a nation with great weapon power (this stands mainly for Russia, today) to increase it's dominion over the weak nations that surrounds it.

The presence of American military bases in different parts of the world is a way of establishing power support for the countries allied with America and surveillance on the possible war initiatives that might affect the world. It might lead to a future "containment" action.

The idea of "containment" is not relevant to American foreign policy today, as Communism is not a global threat anymore, and the world has become unipolar, with the United States as the main power.

    Explanation:

Containment was a policy adopted by the United States towards the Soviet Union during the early years of the Cold War. The purpose of this policy was to defeat the Soviet Union by preventing the expansion of the territory under the control of communist regimes.
