    Rome did NOT affect the whole world. It conquered the territories facing the Mediterranean and about one third of Europe, or less. At the time of the maximum expansion of the Roman empire, there were two other empires, much older, larger, richer and more powerful than the Roman one: China and India. Rome was a regional power, not a world power.
